I am a biology major with a psychology minor. I am hoping to start doing research this spring or summer but I'm wondering can I do research outside of biology or chemistry?

Some people might say that research/publications are all the same and can all contribute to your application. However, I personally think that science related research experience is more useful when applying. When I say science related I mean: bio, chem, physics, biochem research NOT social science research: psychology or sociology.
You should also look into public health research. I have spent quite a few hours in our school of public health in the dental school and I feel it has really helped me gain a strong understanding of dental disparities and why they exist. If you have a school of public health or even a school of public health associated with the dental school I would look into that.
