Hey,

So it's been awhile since I've been in a lab. I'd like to get more research under my belt before I apply/while I'm applying but I'm worried about being a total failure lol. I know it's more than just solution chem and pipetting but I don't know how qualified I am to really work in a lab. Are there entry level positions in places I should look into? Or a course?
I have a year of research during undergrad but it really wasn't anything to write home about. Our -80 died and so did all our samples so we spent one semester regrowing everything and then the second one making western blots and I'm not even sure I can remember how to do that. My western blots came out looking like salvidor dali paintings. And I can tell you the main goal of the study, but really nothing else.

So with all my research on MDapplicants and SDN, the candidates that got accepted with my scores also had some research so to be competitive I feel like I need to do a little more. Paid or unpaid.
Thoughts?

There is no reason to continue with basic science research, which isn't difficult to relearn/refresh by looking at online websites/tutorials. Many of the research you see on MDApps are on other stuff like clinical/translational research, computational biology etc.

If you are focused on basic science research, you can apply to fulltime research positions at universities you are interested in, and can use online tutorials like QIAGEN for reference/refresher.

So, in your opinion, what would be competitive research?

Any science research, particularly in the biomedical sciences. Brownie points for heading your own project or part of a project and being able to explain the entire project to someone who is scientifically literate. Even more points for some form of productivity such as a poster, presentation, or paper.
