Hi,

I turned down a position at the US Army Corp of Engineers for a research position since I already am researching under a very highly ranked group with my university. Would the position be considered Employment: Military for the AMCAS (which would grant a huge advantage when it comes to med school apps?)

Did I dun goof? Fuuu 😱

One of the downsides of doing any government work, especially with the department of defense, is it takes a very long time to hire you. Or get anything done. You'll be going through months of background checks and screenings before you can do anything.

Assuming I get hired on time, would it still be considered military service/employment though? Because I'm doing just as tedious and advanced research as they are. It is literally just another research position, but with the military.

It'd be rather ridiculous to list civilian research for USACE as military employment. That section is meant for actual service in the military.
