I have two question, and I would really appreciate for any input 🙂

1) I've done a research in biomedical engineering department (more specifically atherosclerosis as well as microsurgery). A material science engineering professor have asked if I would like to join to his study in collagen for dental or cure for alzheimer. The problem is...he does dry labs not web lab..so there will not animal involved at all. I can get some credits by taking this opportunity has an elective, but pre-vet or vet school wise, im not too sure. I know my school has an animal behavior research lab, but they are not taking students for now.

Do you think I should wait for animal behavior lab to open? or would it be beneficial for me to take the MSE research?

2) Is there another way of getting some vet exp hours other than shadowing? I live in GA and they do hire vet techs without a license but it's still quite hard to get a job. The place I shadow lets kennel techs to help out vet and watch over too..🙁
at least i have tons and tons of animal exp...........

Research is a very valuable, and based on my class composition I think adcoms are applying heavier weight to it. I would say at least 2/3 of my class has some kind of research experience, either in the form of an advance degree or RA positions. Maybe VMCAS has changed, but I know when I applied I was allowed to use my research as vet experience.

For vet hours, the only way to get them is to ask. It sucks, but just keep calling clinics and applying for positions. The jobs are out there, they are just hard to find, and sometimes you have to start in a position you don't initially want (kennel tech/receptionist).
