I was wondering if anyone knew if you could use bench research from undergrad that was medically relevant (ie with a current medical student) on an app for residency and if it is viewed in a similar fashion as if it was conducted during medical school. thanks

Yea, you can use it. Published research helps. Research during medical school is better, though

Personally, I don't believe that medical school research is "better." What I do think is that if you have a genuine interest in research it is good to do some in medical school to show continuity in that activity.

The reason why I was asking was because I am under the assumption that most of the competitive residencies value research and the school I am going to really only has opportunity for clinical research.

There's nothing wrong with clinical research as opposed to bench research.

I wonder if there's actually an advantage to do bench research in medical school over clinical. My guess would be no.

Have you ever done clinical research? Clinical drug research? Translational medicine doesn't exist without it.

Just to throw this in for some context: I know several people who have landed fine residencies without any research, at all.
