Residency application process and LOR question

OK. I'm unaware.

Can someone please give me an overview of the residency application process? Is there a common application or do you apply to schools seperately (I'm an IMG)? Are you set with 3 LORs, an SOP and the step scores?

And...how does the LOR thing work? I had applied for another degree at some US schools and they expected LORs to arrive in a signed and sealed envelope. How does this work for residency applications? Will I have to ask my professor to sign multiple copies of the LOR?
