whats the consensus? Are most people actually typing their applications for osteopathic internship/residency? or printing them by hand? is it considered unprofessional just to type? I figured it's okay because who has a typewriter still nowadays anyway??

It is not appropriate in any professional field to submit a handwritten application. Period.

Typewritten would be preferable. If you can't find a typewriter, you can scan the application and complete it with a word processing program.

That said, a friend filled out all his fellowship apps by hand and got lots of interviews. But IMHO typed is always better.

Maybe not in the Marine Corps, but elsewhere a person with good penmanship could get by with printing their application. Typed would be better, but neatly printed would be acceptable to most anybody.

Once out of residency nobody cares. All my hospital privileges applications were hand printed. I doubt anybody's going to turn you down for that just because it's not typed.

if you can't find a typewriter, word process your answers, print them out and carefully crop. next step is to tape or glue them onto the original document.

Have you given calligraphy any consideration?

Maybe I am an idiot, but I never found a way to scan a form into a computer and then type on it - it just doesn't work! I would either recreate the document on my computer (I did this on my med school secondary) or I would do the cut and paste business suggested above, except that after cutting and pasting I would make a copy of the cut and paste for submission, rather than using the cut and paste version. I think it would look much more professional that way.
