hi all,
i was just wondering where i find out if schools filled or not? i tried to look in freida but this didnt help, it just tells me how many residents they had each year.
just a thought. sometimes it seems so darn hard to figure out which programs are "competitive" or not. the reason id like to know is so that when i make my rank list i can put some less competitive schools on there as well...!
thanks,
felicity
I don't think those numbers are publicly available. A list of all unfilled residency positions is posted on the NRMP Web site a few days prior to Match Day. However, I think only those medical students who are registered for the NRMP that year are allowed to access the list.
One of my friends obtained the list of unfilled positions in the 2002 match. Here are the results for psychiatry--
For psychiatry, from the 2002 match: U Arizona (1 of 6
unfilled), USC (1/10), U Colorado (2/9), UConn (1/5), GWU (1/4), Howard (1/1), MCG (1/6), Morehouse (3/4), Advocated Lutheran-Illinois (1/3), Loyola (2/6), U Kentucky (1/4), Henry Ford (2/4), MSU-East Lansing (1/2), U Mich (2/11), U Minn (1/5), Creighton (1/6), U Nevada-Reno (3/4), Maimonides NY (2/2), Rochester-Strong Memorial (2/3), Duke (3/11), NEOUCOM (1/3), Case Western/UH (4/6), U Oklahoma-OK City (3/4), U Oklahoma-Tulsa (1/3), Allegheny (3/4), U Puerto Rico (1/4), McGill (2/2), East Tenn (1/4), Meharry (2/4).
For internal medicine/psychiatry, from the 2002 match: U Conn (1 of 1
unfilled), U Iowa (2/3), U Kansas (1/2), Tulane (1/2), SUNY-Brooklyn (2/2), East Carolina (1/2), East Tenn (1/2), UVA Roanoke-Salem (1/1).
I would emphasize that this list of programs is only representative of the psychiatry residency training programs that did not fill for the 2002 match. I would guess that many of the schools on this list could not be appropriately described by the phrase "this program is so bad they did not fill". Not filling is highly embarassing, and many programs will go through substantial overhaul so as to decrease the likelihood that they will not fill in the future.
I guess the most direct way to obtain the most current data would be to ask the Program Director. They should be willing to provide you with that information if asked directly.
Cheers
