Residency in another state

Hey guys is it true that in order to be a resident in a another state you have to live there for a year and you can't be a fulltime student?

I imagine it completely depends on the state and that there are generally other complicating factors. On my phone so can't give any links but try a search for state residency or something similiar on the forums and there should be probably quite a few related threads.

It does depend on the state. You should be able to find that info on the school's website, though there is some info on here. Though I would imagine not the specifics on every school.

This thread lists some vet schools that will allow you to gain residency while in vet school and switch from paying out-of-state tuition to in-state tuition. If the schools allow you to do this, then I can only assume that you are able to gain residency even while a full-time student. But as the others mentioned, it varies by state.

Yep differs by school, so your best shot will be to contact the schools you're interested in and ask about your particular situation. For some schools it doesn't even matter where you live or where you go to school as long as you're under 24, because it'll be your parent's residency that matters.

Also keep in mind that state residency (like for taxes and car registration and stuff) aren't always the same as state residency for TUITION PURPOSES. so don't go around just googling 'Alabama state residency' or something
