As you start getting interviews to places, is it better to go ahead and schedule an interview at the first places to offer one, even if you don't know what dates interview will be held at other programs (programs that you like better)? I am not sure whether to go ahead and schedule an interview and take a chance that I may have to cancel or reschedule, or just wait a bit and see what dates other programs offer before I choose.

I might not be the best person to answer this, since this is my first run through the interview trail as well. But, from what I've been told... you shoud schedule all interviews ASAP, because spots can fill up fast.

And if you need to cancel or reschedule later, worry about it then. I feel like programs will be more sympathetic if you need to reschedule than if you procrastinated on responding to their invite.

What do others think?

I am procrastinating schedule some of my interviews.....at programs that are not in my first choice group....

I am still debating when to schedule them...

Schedule programs that you would consider. You may be surprised to find out by the time interviews are completed that you what you thought were your first choices are now at the bottom. You will learn more about programs that you not been to during the interview and may find that they are a better match for you.

I'm pretty much in this same school of thought....I like to know that I have a spot and if I need to reschedule I will deal with it then...otherwise...I don't have to worry about it....besides....I don't want to assume I'll be getting all of these invites...I will appreciate the ones I have

When you set up rotations, try to have one in a dream spot, you may not have an interview there when you start your rotation, but you may impress them so much they will give you one while you are there. Try to do a rotation at a solid middle of the road program, so when you can get an interview there, they know you. Hopefully you will have a solid program that has a connection with you, as a back-up to your dream choice. This is all said with the assumption that you will bust your but to study and wow them with your ability to be a team player and have a good work ethic. Good luck to all of you 4th year students about to venture into the world of interviews and applications, hang in there it is a long road and full of emotional highs and lows, but your effort will be rewarded.

Schedule ASAP. It's nice to the programs and it tells them you are mature.

schedule your interviews now so you can get the dates that you want. Later on in the season, fewer dates will be available. If you have a conflict, you can always reschedule or cancel. If you need to cancel, give the program at least two weeks notice.

Yea, totally. I mean, if you are unsure whether you want to interview at a certain program, then why apply to that program in the first place. 😎
