I'm starting to get invitations for interviews (Neurology is an early match) and I have a question. Is it better to interview early or late in the process? Programs are giving me a choice of interview dates and I'm wondering if it would be better to choose a late date (so that you're more memorable when decisions are being made) or an early date (so that you can get it over with!). Any ideas would be appreciated.

Did not make any difference for me.

i have found in EM that if they are offering you interviews early, they want to see you for a good reason.

one way to decide is to ask if the interview process is a selective one--i.e. are they interviewing everyone who submitted an application, or are they selectively interviewing.

isserson recommends that it is best to interview very early (i.e. the first of the bunch) or very late, as you say, to be memorable when decisions are being made.

however, a bit of research into their process may help i have found...some residencies make decisions in waves--i.e. they will interview all of october, committee meets and decides on x number of candidates, then they interview the next wave, so on and so forth..in this case, it matters really not when you interview just so long as you get in there.

hope this helps.

good luck!

Im am a first year neurology resident in the midwest. You can email me at [email protected] and I will answer any questions you would like. To give a quick answer....I am at a residency that I interviewed at first (august). If you do a good job and are a strong candidate they will remember who you are.
