I have just finished a 3rd year elective at an away institution. I have a feeling that I was at least well liked by the folks I worked with, including the PD. (I got "honors" on this rotation). Unfortunately, the PD had to go out of town on the final day of my rotation, so I did not have a chance to ask for a LOR in person.

Three days ago, I emailed this said PD with a very nice request for a LOR... and haven't received a response. I know the PD is busy and may have not gotten to my email yet... or maybe my email got filtered into the spam folder... But then of course I am also having a terrifying feeling that he just hated me and doesn't want to write a LOR for me...

So what should I do? I was thinking about calling his secretary and trying to get him on the phone (which could be difficult, as he is rarely in the office). Or should I email him again?

thanks in advance for your tips!

I would wait this out for at least 1 week after the email was sent... it sounds like this doc is pretty busy and may just need some time to get back to you. I don't think hounding him on the phone would help. I would instead send another polite reminder email, making sure the first one got to him, after about 10 days.

Just my two cents... good luck!
