Has anyone used any of the residency matching books that are available?

Where did you go for information to apply for residency?

Is there any reason to buy a book?

Thanks!

Scott

Have you decided what specialty you're headed into? That's probably the first place to start. There is a good book called choosing your specialty, can't remember who writes it.

One of very SDN's very own DR. SAMIR DESAI has written an excellent book called: The residency match, 101 biggest mistakes and how to avoid them which can be found at the follwing link: http://www.md2b.net/

Another autor named Kenneth V Iserson has written a book called: Getting into residency. Which can be found at the following link:

Good Luck !

It's called "How to Choose a Medical Specialty," by Anita Taylor. Not a bad book. The author interviewed a bunch of people in each specialty, and then created a "survey." After you answer the questions, you compare the "score" you get with the list of specialties and how the physicians in those specialties answered them. Unfortunately, I read the book, did all the exercises, then I found this link:
http://www.med-ed.virginia.edu/specialties/

This is taken from the book. It's a series of questions, some repeated or rephrased. Based on your answers, the program gives you a list of the specialties with which you might be compatible. Takes about 10-15 minutes.

It's a place to start...
