Hello Everyone!

I have begun planning the months leading up to residency and am realizing that the likely cross-country move pre-intern year will be quite expensive. This is probably a long shot, but do internal medicine programs typically offer a moving stipend?

Happy New Year!

Nope. Sorry.

Some do, to the tune of 3K (takes not included). You get it in a later paycheck.

Very rarely, no? And mostly community programs? I would advise OP not to depend on it if you're asking for the purpose of financial planning.

Most programs will not reimburse any moving expenses.

If you are thinking about using a full-service mover, please make sure you pay attention to http://www.movingscam.com/

Don't use a moving "broker". Don't pay a deposit. Get an "in-house" estimate.

ABF Upack, usually the most bang for you buck, and much better customer service than PODS

This is not at all common and I doubt any top 50 program does. However, there are tax implications:

There are specific loan programs for starting residency that can be used for moving expenses.
