Is there any place I can see statistics on Step scores in various residencies...either by field or (preferably) by individual program?

Very few programs will tell you their cutoffs or averages for Step scores. Some will publicly list cutoffs.

However, your school might track USMLE scores for various specialties where its graduates matched. You might want to ask your dean this question.

Good question. I've also wondered why these kinds of things are kept so secret.

If you peruse the residency forums, the stats for some of the pickier specialties have been posted. Otolarynology, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery were all in the low to mid 230s in terms of mean score for matched students during this last match. I vaguely remember seeing a 231 for radiology as well. I haven't seen derm stats, but I would assume they are in the same neighborhood.
