I was wondering, am I the minority, or are there some of you out there that has yet to hear, rejection or otherwise from some residency programs? I realize that they are busy and all, but isn't it kind of rude to NEVER send anything?! I still have not heard anything from : George Washington or Univ of South Florida...

Haven't heard anything from Johns Hopkins, Orlando, and Jacksonville. At this point if you haven't heard anything yet, chances are they're not interested.

Nada from:

MCV - Richmond
UI - Iowa City
USF - Tampa
Orlando

I hadn't heard anything from MCW - Milwaukee until last week. They emailed me saying they couldn't offer an interview at this date but that they had never received my app from ERAS until another applicant called wondering why they'd been ignored. It seems ERAS didn't send ~30 apps to MCW and mine was one of them.

I'm sure the other programs that blew me off did so intentionally but I'm going to keep telling myself it was all ERAS' fault. 🙂

Take care,
Jeff

I've got about 5-6 programs that didnt deign to even acknowlege my application. I figure that the least I'd get for my ERAS application fee would be an official email from them telling me to F-off, but nope. Oh well, at this stage in the game I've done interviews at most of the places I wanted. The rest of the programs that left me in limbo? screw em.

i have 3 myself... but i'm leaving the country saturday with a good top 5-6, so i'm not sweatin it.

thanks for the thoughts... it's real helpful to hear from attendings and what to look forward to.

Seems odd, since I've gathered from other posters that it doesn't have the best reputation but I never heard a thing from Metropolitan in NY. That's the only one for me though.

Its worth mentioning that a few years ago when I applied there was one program I hadn't heard from and like the above poster said about Metropolitan I was a little surprised since it wasn't a great program. I called to see what was up and was told they hadn't contacted me because they didn't think I was likely to be interested in their program. As soon as I called they offered me an interview.

Didn't hear from Orlando or Penn. I think it's completely unprofessional for a program to ignore your application. If they're not interested they should be decent enough to say so.

I haven't heard from UNM. I didn't hear from Iowa until a couple of weeks ago - offering an interview. By then, I was done, and declined.

I heard from someone along the trail that UNM won't offer unless you seem interested and contact them - that way they know you are really interested. Makes sense, but it would be nice to actually hear something. Maybe that's the rationale - if you're really interested, you'll let them know. (Especially if they wouldn't expect you to rank them highly)

I still think its rude not to send ANYTHING by this point in time. I actually contacted both George Washington and Univ of South Florida a long time ago about the status of my application and never heard back from that even. Seems like USF is a common theme among all of us? Do these places just think they are too busy to send replies back to applicants who obviously were interested in the program or else we wouldn't have paid for the application with our precious $$$. IT doesn't say a lot about the program itself.

It's not uncommon for programs not to interview good candidates they don't think are likely to want to go there. If you think you fall in this category and haven't heard from a program in which you're still interested, it may be worth calling them and finding out one way or the other. Obviously, it's late in the game for this season's interviews, but future applicants should take note.

Its been two years, but I'm still waiting to hear back from UVA and Hopkins... among about 8 others. Actually about 20% of the programs I interviewed at gave me nothing in regards to the status of my application or a rejection. Some of the programs that I really wanted to go to, I contacted personally. That was also hit or miss... about 50%.

If i were you, and I were really interested in a program you haven't heard back from yet, call them. Email them. Let them know your interests! Persistence, viewed by some as annoying, can also say a LOT about your interests in a program, and I have known several applicants who managed to get an interview because of persistence. "The squeaky wheel gets the grease." Granted, that's not going ot happen all the time, but there are always cases. And I wouldnt' do it to a program unless you truly were interested. Don't waste a program's time if you're just doing it to beef up your interview #s.

I knew of a guy who had horrible board scores and grades, but kept bugging the PD at conferences and via email and what not. Managed to match at a PGY1-4 program.

The last thing I want to do right now is contact one of these programs. Hell, they might offer me an interview and then I'd be screwed. Sort of like the dog who finally catches the mail truck.

My brain is hurting enough as it is trying to make my ROL, I don't need to discover lots of great things about more programs.

Take care,
Jeff <- DONE with interviews! Whoop!

The programs that you have not heard from, does ERAS show them having received your app?

Quinn, I too am still holding out for that UVA interview. Though, it's only been a year for me so i think my chances a little bit better. 😉
