Hi, I have a question about the residency requirement, my friend who recently acquires his permanent resident in Canada is planning on appling to The Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. He is living in Singapore at the moment, but he went to high school and university in Calgary, AB as an international student. So does he qualify the residency requirement? Or he would be classified as an international student even though he lived in Alberta for over 10 years?

I know it seems very specified, but I am not sure where or who to ask this question, thanks in advance.

I think your friend's best course of action is to call the school and ask.

The best bet is to call WCVM and ask, but I suspect he would not qualify for residency, based on the following information from the WCVM website.

Residency is determined by:
(1) for applicants residing with their parents, the residence of the parents shall determine the residence of the applicant;
(2) for applicants not residing with their parents, residence is established by the applicant's residing in the province in question for at least one year (12 consecutive months) without attending university; and
(3) residents of foreign countries having veterinary colleges are not eligible to be considered for admission to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine.
