Does anyone know of a website (or any other resource) where stats about DO residencies are published? I'm looking for the # of total applicants, # interviewed, etc. for all DO residencies. Any help would be much appreciated.

Once you find a program that you are interested in, I would go directly to that programs website for the information you are looking for.

Can anyone answer this question - How do you know if an Allopathic Residency will take Osteopathic Students? Is there a designation or list of programs/residencies that take both DO & MD's?

For example, Ive frequented many hospitals in Boston (MGH, Children's, B&W) and I NEVER see a DO. I even went as far as to check the directory and they don't exist! I know that this is because Boston is saturated with Allopathic Medical Schools (and these hosptials are affiliated with those schools) but come on..there must be a demand for DO's!! 🙂 \

How hard is it for a DO to acquire a residency these hospitals?

Careofme•••••Pretty hard. You need to be the best of the best, or, have a very important parent.

BTW, 3 from NYCOM are going to B&W for anesthesia.

I have been checking out anesthesiology residencies lately as I will be applying next year. I have contacted several program directors and gotten very enthusiastic responses from all of them. A lot of them are considered to be top 20 programs such as:

University of Virginia
University of Michigan
Georgetown University
George Washington University
Duke University
Wake Forrest University
University of Florida
University of Pittsburgh
Johns Hopkins
Dartmouth University

I could go on and on but I think you get the picture. In fact, I have not found a program that does not accept both MDs and DOs.

Sounds good...would you mind sharing your profile with us?

I'm just concerned that many of the "big" medical centers will close their doors to DO's when they already have a hefty and competitive allopathic applicant pool to choose from (especially with those saturated with allopathic medical schools to choose from).

Granted its very early for me; however, I am interested in a specialty surgery residency at one of the hospitals I mentioned above but from what I've been able to find out they just dont like DOs or something. 🙂

It just seems distressful that when you've done so much to achieve what you want only to come to one last barrier.
