  1. Resident [Any Field]
Hello everyone,

I am a 1st year resident in General Surgery in Romania and I was wandering if it is possible to do my residency training in any EU country. I am particulary interested in Greece, as my heart remained there..

Thank you.

Hi.

I'd also like to get some info about surgical residency training in the EU. I'm from the UK. Postgraduate medical training in the UK has undergone major changes this year with the introduction of the controversial Modernising Medical Career system. There are less opportunities to train for both UK graduates but IMGs have been the worst hit. I wouldn't advise anyone to come here (but then I'm trying to get out!)

I'm interested in finding out about surgical residency training in Belgium, Switzerland, Germany or Austria. I know getting into residency training in France involves sitting an exam called 'le concours d'internat' and all doctors are ranked according to the results of this and allocated to specialties accordingly. In France you have to enter residency training at Year 1 (like in the US) but that's reasonable as their residencies are short.

I've done my basic surgical training in the UK. Does anyone know, is it possible to enter specialist surgical training directly as an IMG without having to repeat the basic surgical training anywhere in the EU?

Thanks in advance for any information.
