Resident call schedule and work hours

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My residency class was much bigger and we had tons of fellows. Our call schedule was a little easier.

Your call schedule is good and you are not really working A TON. I don't see why you complain. You are working 50 hours a week and every third week 74 hours. So the average is around 58 hours. It is still much less than the 80 hour rule. You can not really convince your PD to change the hours, since he is not doing anything against GME rules.

Though not relevant, I work more hours in my pp.

i understand this isn't the worst and that other people have it harder and that it's harder as an attending etc. I'm not trying to prove any point or say that it's hard for us, just trying to poll around and see what the normal is for other people (my only reference is my program and a few of the other programs I interviewed at that I still remember).

My point is, as long as a program is acting within GME rules, the residents can not complain about hours. Your PD will not buy it even if you have the worst schedule among 200 radiology programs.

IMO, this causes more harm than good. Don't try to fight it.
