Hey everyone,

I am a IM PGY-1 about to become a PGY-2 and am in the process of applying for a state license. I am looking at opportunities to moonlight but it's kind of a crap shoot with a residency schedule. I suppose it depends on the state, but would it be possible to create your own moonlighting gig? Something simple like telemed for erectile dysfunction, pre trial consulting etc?

Sure. Nobody will pay you for the latter. And online boner pill mills are paying like $20 an appointment and you need to be available for a certain stretch of time, not just pop in and out like you're driving for GrubHub.

You may be licensed but since you aren't BE you basically can't bill insurance--finding external moonlighting will be difficult and you will need to get medmal insurance for it. If there are no internal opportunities you are probably out of luck. All moonlighting has to be reported to your PD and accounted for in your hours and presumably approved by them. Nobody is going to want your opinion in court because you aren't an expert in anything as a PGY2.
