Hi guys,

Just taking a look at Frieda-- I noticed that some programs take 4 residents/ year some 6/ and some even 10!!
I know that the number of residents is based on the number of patients that come to that particular hospital/area, etc.
My question is: would it be better (as far as work load ) to be in a residency program with *more* residents than less?

I was even reading one residency program in the NE that claimed on Frieda that the hours / week was 55!!! (that must have been a mistake right? for it surely deviated from the usualy 75-80 work weeks)

any thoughts?
thanks!

why does no one answer posts on this forum-- ? I think ive gotten spoiled by the other forums where ppl are lurking and waiting to post all the time.

Hey Sno,

I think it all depends. Some very busy programs have only a few residents, those are mostly community programs. Alot of programs, like Northwestern, has 9 residents, but they split their time between 2 or 3 hospitals, same thing with Emory.

I have a really hard time believing that any OB/GYN programs only work 55 hours per week on average. It may happen on occasion, but you really need to investigate whether you willl end up taking tons of home call, and if that includes the didactic time.

Good luck with your search

Michelle
