Anyone have a good (free) online resource/guide for how to handle various issues that may arise while you're cross-covering patients (chest pain, SOB, HTN, etc.)? I never had night float/cross-cover experience in med school and it's one of the few times during intern year where you're more or less on your own, so I figured it would be worthwhile pre-intern year reading.

Might want to post this in the "Internship" or "Internal Medicine" forum

Yeah that would probably be a good idea. I guess I can't cross-post my cross-cover (ha!) question, so if a mod could move it over that'd be dandy 🙂

Probably just "report" your post, and just say you want it moved, and a mod will move it.

If called about something early on, go evaluate the patient. Ask the nurses to recheck vitals while on your way.

Low threshold for EKG and CXR. Have a few go to meds that you know their profile well for BP, sleep, agitation, etc.

There is no real guide as local practices vary wildly.
