Dr. Josh

Since I'm just starting to use Interfolio I have a couple of questions:

I see it allows you to print the cover letter or to e-mail it. If I already printed it, will I also be allowed to e-mail it?

If I printed it once and the letter writer doesn't write in a reasonable amount of time, and I need to send another, will I be able to reprint the cover letter, or do i have to set up a new document for the new cover letter to the same professor?

I'm not sure, but I was wondering the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I ended up just printing one out, then creating a new document to resend it.

Hmmm...I guess when I need it, I'll try to print or send another, but I would rahter know upfront.

Have all the Interfolio users found it so seamless that they never had to ask these questions? if so, then please answer them all. I liked it when the guy from Interfolio was reading this board and was responding to our inqueries.

How does the interfolio work? Do my references send one LOC to interfolio and the company sends the LOC to each medical schools? Lastly, do all medical schools accept LORs sent by Interfolio?

The best solution is to create a new document and print out the cover letter 2-3 times. If you needed it later you would have to set up a new document and thus it will be assigned a different bar code. Not sure about the e-mail thing but most professors will prefer a hard copy

What is a LOC. Yes you have your recommendor or advising committee send a letter to interfolio. Then you have full control over it and can send it to as many medical schools as you want.

A medical school many not outright say they accept interfolio and some will prefer hard copies which you can send through interfolio. However, the colective knowledge here on SDN (mine included) is that nobody has yet run across a school that will not accept interfolio.

Yes the *****s at interfolio decided it was a good idea to update and rennovate the site at the beggining of a new application cycle. Normally there is an extensive help feature and a useful FAQ.

 although that's not really so funny.

And I guess I'm going to have to experiment now. One professor I asked won't write LORs for people he's had less than two semesters; it's not my fault he doesn't teach the second half of the course and I have to break in a new professor. The other one is gone for the summer so I'll have to resort to e-mailing. I went to his office and he was already gone. I'll now have to ask him to write the LOR via e-mail.

Let me ask how this Interfolio thing works again for e-mailing. Can I attach anything to this cover letter when I e-mail it; I mean my explanation that I'd like him to write me a LOR? How about my resume? Do I have to send my resume to interfolio to include it? or should I just send an e-mail from my personal e-mail with my resume attached and then say I'm going to send the cover letter from interfolio separately?

Someone who has experience please help me! 😳

I don't know about e-mailing it later... I haven't had that experience. But you CAN print the cover letter again at a later time. You go to your documents section, and under 'status' (I think... it's down right now, so I can't check), it will say 'not received' and beneath that is a link to the cover letter.

You create documents for your letters (or other materials), and the writers send in letters to a processing plant, where they scan them in. Then, when it comes time to make a delivery, you select the documents you want, and type in the address you want it sent to. You can also send it electronically to some schools.

On the secondaries thread earlier, someone said that Jefferson required you to fax in your LORs, but I don't know if anyone has verified to see if they don't accept packets from interfolio.

Right before the transition to the new layout I asked a couple of profs for LORs. Recently I noticed that the document with the barcode that you give to the prof has changed. Before they had 3 options for submitting the letter - mail, electronic upload, and fax. Now they only list the former two. One of my recommenders was planning on faxing my letter in (I asked her for LOR before the transition). Can she still send it by fax? Should I alert her that fax may not work?
thanks

That is so not cool.

Do I send the same email/cover sheet to all of my letter writers or do I make a different one for each person? 😕
