OH MY GOSH, OH MY GOSH, HOW'D YOU DO?!?!?!

I took my moca 6 months ago. Year 8 of 10 year cycle. Passed

My two former residency mates just took it. More of a procrastination than anything else this moca recert. Just better to get it out of the way.

Although still need to do simulation or case study to complete moca by end of 2015.

Passed. Recertification now good till 2027. Maybe ill retire then.

You must be doing real well or got side business. Most of us will only be in our late 40s/early 50s by the time the 2nd MOCA recert comes around. They keep changing the MOCA requirements on the fly which is the most annoying part.

Those who were certified between 2000-2003 only need to take one written test.
Those who certified 2004-2007 needed to take one written test PLUS a simulation course (which isn't even graded) or a case study
Those who certified after 2008 had to take one written test PLUS simulation course AND do a case study.

They just keep adding more requirements, none of which really have been proven to improve outcome.

I wont really be able to retire @ 52. 62 maybe.

agree moca is mostly b.s., but its the price of admission.

I think it really depends on where you take the simulation course. Maybe I'm delusional because our institution has a fantastic sim center (I just finished initial ABA certification but took the MOCA simulation because it's at our institution and I want to help run future sessions) - I felt like I actually learned something and it was good practice. Some of them were pretty intense and thought provoking.

Now the ABA has instituted this new simulation portion for the 'oral part' of the ABA exam. I can't wait to see what involves and I am so incredibly glad I didn't have to take that (or the new part one exam).

There were several people who were taking it at my institution who were trying to start MOCA simulation courses in their institutions. I got the impression that what we put on is far ahead of some of the developing programs - likely because the amount of money that went into our simulation center. It's tough because there are so few places to take it currently. Hopefully that will improve with time.

I agree though that all this change and requirements are a real pain. It's incredibly expensive too!

Just got my PASS! First attempt. Thanks Niels.

I have Jensen's MOCA Blue binder and MOCA audio CD's available for sale if anyone is interested.

I feel like I went to a good sim center and everyone was friendly and wanting to make it a good experience. Maybe it's because I finished residency almost 4 years ago and we did simulation there, to me it was nothing great and I certainly am glad I didn't have to lose income or vacation over it.
