How lax is your dress code for pharmacists at your (retail) work place? I've seen a pharmacist in a hoodie, a pharmacist in a maxi dress, a pharmacist in a plain white tee, etc. but then of course there's those pharmacists that are always in business casual or a dress shirt and tie..

Does it not matter because the white coat covers most of it and your legs are barely seen anyway? Does it only matter for the techs to be in scrubs?

What do you usually wear?

I'm on my community rotation right now at an independent pharmacy. As a student, the only rule that I was given at this site was, "your shirt has to have a collar, and you have to wear pants." I was told anything, from polos to dress shirt and tie, is okay. Jeans are also okay. This is the same general guideline for the pharmacists, though last week one was wearing a t-shirt. Personally I still wear a dress shirt and tie with slacks. No one wears white coats. The techs can wear virtually anything -- t-shirts, shorts, etc.

I am currently wearing a plain black hoodie, with a plain black polo shirt, and dark blue jeans.

Where I work it's way more lax for women, my pharmacy manager told all the males "randomly" that we had to show up to work in a dress shirt, tie, and slacks ONLY. Nothing else. Keep in mind before this incident we had always worn the usual T-shirt which promoted flu shots and such.

While the guys were wearing dress clothes, most of the women were still wearing T-shirts, khakis, and whatever else.

I've never seen jeans being worn in a pharmacy before, khakis, yes. Jeans? No, they would be sent home immediately. Shorts? Same thing. It's happened to new hires who came in wearing shorts, pharmacy manager said it was unprofessional.

My current ensemble:

A sapphire blue J Crew polo with & slate chinos, with Blue Sambas

When I worked retail I routinely wore scrubs although technically it was a dress code violation as the dress code required a dress shirt and tie. I never wore the tie even when I did wear the dress shirt.

all depends on the location - most chains are going to do the typical business causal, independents will let you slide much more - just depends on how chill the owner is.
What is wrong with a maxi dress? (I had to google it) - doesn't seem like the most practical thing, but looks fine.

I work at an independent, I wear jeans and a dress shirt, some days with a tie if I'm feeling ambitious .

Whenever I see the pharmacist at Walmart or at the local grocery chain the male pharmacist is usually wearing khakis and some type of collard shirt. It makes me wonder why 20 plus years ago I was required to wear a white smock and necktie. What's even more sad, the females wore a white shirt with a clip on tie that looked like it belonged to colonel Sanders. The pharmacists of today look just as competent and professional without the silly getup.

Look presentable. Jeans a no. you have a coat over so can get away with wrinkled clothing.

Where I work, guys have to wear slacks and a collared shirt. Only techs can wear scrubs. As long as I don't have to wear a tie, I'm happy.

I wear whatever I want to. Some days that means jeans and a t shirt and sometimes a suit. Virginia doesn't require a white coat and is pretty relaxed on everything compared to other states like WV which requires white coat.

My chain retail pharmacy supervisor once sent a male technician home for not wearing a tie. He had the button down shirt and slacks on, just didn't have the tie. I always wear a button-down shirt with a tie and pants and sneakers since I'm on my feet all day.

A tech has to wear a tie! I'd find other employment immediately if I was that tech. Completely unnecessary and I bet your supervisor is a pr**k.

the only thing I care about is shoes. Intern attire at my grocery chain is shirt /tie and tennis shoes allowed. Jersey's on game days, and other dress down days when the store has an event.

I had to wear a tie back when I teched at a grocery store. It was just standard dress code for all employees. NBD.

Well in retail for men it's shirt, tie, no jeans. You can get away with Nikes though, at least every single floater wears them. From what I observe women can pretty much wear anything they want except jeans. I've seen a tech written up for not wearing a tie back when I worked at CVS but I guess they wear scrubs now.

Yup I saw literally the exact same thing happen! Except the tech went back to where we hang our coats and got a tie that he had there. He still got written up. Crazy. I used to wear dress shoes but got a pair of solid black sneakers so you can't even tell the difference unless you are looking for it.

I worked at a hospital a long time ago that tried to implement a shirt and tie dress code. Men were already wearing polo's and khakis. So basically I took some of my Dad's old ties from the 60's and 70's and some of the ugliest shirts and wore them for a month. He had so many that I gave them away so others could wear them too and my favorite was a red stripped shirt and white poka dot tie. Management got the point they couldn't regulate fashion sense.
