Genuinely curious. Thank you for your comments.

In 2015, my sign-on bonus was $20k for a 2 year commitment and 1.5k to relocate. I still have the email to prove it, but just take my word for it.

Does Walgreens even offer sign on commitments anymore?

I got $5k with no contract in 2010. But it required licensure within 60 days of graduation and I was the only person I knew of who managed to get licensed in time.

Back in the day 2005 - 2010, hospitals would give $5,000 - $10,000 sign-on bonus for 2 - 4 years. Retail chains would give $20,000 - $40,000 for 2 - 4 years. Independents sometimes offered $1000 - $2000, but generally didn't have to give a bonus to get an employee.

Today, it's extremely rare for anyone to offer a sign-on bonus. If you see a sign-on bonus, you know there is something majorly wrong with the job. Sign-on bonuses are much lower these days as well , the last one I've seen was for a retail chain, for $5,000 bonus for 4 years (for manager in a fairly dangerous area of town.)

Sign-on bonuses are a thing of the past. I never got a sign-on bonus for any of my job offers in retail pharmacy. I was competing against other pharmacists for the same spot as well.

I have to throw this one out there simply to show how much things have changed.
-45k for a 3year commitment in 2004 + a full move (come in and pack everything for you and deliver and unpack) = that cost another $6,000 I think. grocery store retail
-2016-$5,000 to cover moving expenses for a one year commitment - (I didn't take the job) - hospital
-FWIW my current employer of 13 years has never offered a sign on bonus, but for awhile there were offering a $1,500 referral bonus if you referred a new hire (hospital)

2017 I received 6000 dollars for a 2 year commitment

Doubtful, but not impossible. If a store is a mess and has had high turn over from new grads and no floaters want the position, I could see Walgreens offering one to the right candidate. After all, if the candidate fails, they are obligated to repay it back, so no loss there.

2019- I got offered $27,000 for a 2 year commitment. Turned them down because base salary was only 115k

Where was this at, I'm sure there are a ton of people here who would jump at a job like that. I'd look into taking it!

Must be a real dumpster fire if there are bonuses being bandied about.
This 100%. I'm in IL & will randomly see a Wags in Macomb, IL offering a sign on for a pharmacy manager position. I haven't seen a listing for maybe 6 months so they must have tricked someone for now.

If I were hiring in an undesirable location I would totally take advantage of this. “$50k sign on bonus*, come work for us!”

*Bonus is paid out after 1 year of service. Associate must be in good standing with no history of being on a PIP or have any customer complaints on record. “1 year of service” assumes a 40 hours/week worked x 1 calendar year and actual scheduled hours for the job may be variable based on market demands. Bonus is void if associate leaves the company before 1 year of service is complete, either voluntarily or involuntarily. Amount of bonus payout will also be variable based on current market rate.

That’s assuming that they don’t get their licenses revoked or suspended while they work at the dumpster fires.

If people are willing to sell their license for $500 selling bootlegged t-shirts then they will definitely do so for a chance at $50k.

Bonuses are still available. CVS is offering bonuses in South Texas. Walgreens is offering bonuses in the meth belt of CA. Rite Aid is offering a tiny 5k relocation bonus for new PICs.

It's a cursed position. Several years ago, the previous long-term manager was tragically killed in a car accident driving home from work. Since then, nobody stays at the position.

What is wrong with the area and how is the car accident related to the position not being filled?
Genuinely curious.

probably not - I have turned down jobs that offered me more - it is all about location, experience, and what you are currently making.

Yeah back in the day but i didn't think they offered bonuses nowadays because they have a lot of pharmacists with similar credentials lined up for the job. But I guess you are right in the sense of the location and what kind of position it is

50k for just 1 year in 2019?? That sounds like a fantastic bonus!

My friend only got 30k for 3 year commitment in ghetto Louisiana in 2014!! Those bonuses do not exist anymore.

You didn’t read the fine print on the hypothetical bonus.

I did, I'm saying that's a much better deal than what was actually given 5 years ago.

It's just a correlation, nobody has stayed at the job since the accident. I'm a bit superstitious.
The area itself is a nice college town, other than being in the middle of nowhere.

An opportunity to be fired after 364 days for no reason and get no bonus?

That's the same as before except they used to be 3 years commitment and less bonus.

Happy/Healthy bought out my specialty store (NoCal) in 2012. As PIC I was offered 30k bonus to stay and another 30k after 1 year. I doubt this will ever happen again in my lifetime. (yes....I bought a house in 2012...when prices were low).
