Hey everyone,

CGPA- 3.5
SGPA- 3.5

1. So my question is I plan on taking a English 101 class as a retake at a community college, Microbiology for the first time at a community college and organic chemistry 1 as a retake at a community college. All my other classes are from a 4 year. I was wondering if it mattered to osteopathic med schools that I took these courses at a community college?

2 My second question is I am going to be applying with 4 C's-
1. History-- C+ (During junior year)
2. Writing-- C (during first semester of college)
3. Foundations course for my school-- C+ (during first semester of college)
4. General Chemistry 2-- C+ (sophomore year)

The C+ in Gen Chem 2 is my only science class with C. All my other C's are in non science courses Everything else is As and Bs. I have decided not to retake it because of the lack of time. Do you think it's a good idea to not retake the Gen Chem 2 course? Will it hurt my application?

3. Also due to a lack of time, I have decided to take biochemistry after I graduate in the fall 2016 semester while I am in the application cycle. Will this be looked down upon by osteopathic schools?

4. Lastly I plan on applying July 10 after I complete my last retake (orgo 1, initially got a C, want to retake it for hopefully an A).
Do you think it's better to apply with a 3.4 Cgpa and 3.4 Sgpa Day 1 (June 1st) OR with a 3.5 Cgpa and 3.5 Sgpa July 10 and waiting until September to update my GPA with the orgo 1 retake?

P.S. I plan on only applying to D.O. Schools

Thank You

Honestly if I were you I wouldnt really retake, your GPA is 3.5 which is decent, just work on studying for your MCAT and get a 505+ and you should be fine

Most DO schools accept CC credits. I would just re-take your pre-req classes that are C's and not to worry about any other classes. Your GPA is competitive. Your MCAT is now the important factor.

GPA is not an issue. Take the MCAT and score above 500(ideally 505+) amd you will have plenty of interviews

Hey thanks everyone. So the general consensus would be that there's no need to retake the general Chem 2 prereq with a grade of C+?

I agree your GPA is fine, but your entire focus on getting a 505+ MCAT score, and you shall be gold for majority of DO schools granted you have decent extra-curriculars as well!

Is your GPA out of 5.0 or 4.0? Because with that many C's, I'm not sure how you have a GPA of 3.5/4.0. I wouldn't retake them because your final grade will be an average of your former and new grade...which won't make a significant change and thus a waste of time. Rather, I would take more classes and get A's on them and get a >90th percentile MCAT score to have a competitive application.
