I got a B (GPA = 3.0) on MICROECONOMICS; however, I am sure that if i take that course again in next year, i can get an A.

Do you think taking again and getting an A are better than not taking it again? If I take again, are there any disadvantages getting into dental school (will admission officers think negatively about that?)

thank you

Instead of retaking micro, take macro and accounting, and get an A in those. Don't worry too much about Micro - I doubt they are going to crucify you for not understanding consumer econ.

I'd say don't bother retaking it if it's not detrimental to your GPA overall, but if you're sure you can get an A in it, then take it. Or, take an upper level econ course and ace it. That'll look good too imo.

I dont think the schools care if you get an A the 2nd time because you already know the stuff...of course you will get an A.
Good luck

I second this comment. Good answer 😀

The disadvantages or retaking the course again are:
1. Paying for it again.
2. Time.

The Advantages are:
1. Dental schools will see this as a sign of intended improvement.
2. GPA boost.

I am confused. So if you retake a class and get a better grade on it, then only the improved grade is counted?

No, AADSAS averages the two grades. In his case, it would equate to a 3.5gpa for that class.

IMO, if that is going to make a noteable difference in your GPA, go for it. If not, forget it. I don't think dental schools could care less about a B in econ, but a little jump in GPA is always a good thing.

omg, adcom isn't that picky.....only take it if retaking it makes a big difference in your gpa which i doubt it will....

Since when a B is not a good grade and requires a retake. Just do well on your DAT and keep getting A's and B's.

Something you're doing's not right. You shouldn't be getting this many B's. Emory's a challenging school, but you should still be able to manage a 3.4 - 3.6 if you know how to study for one of their exams. I won't go into too much details on here, but there are definately certain things that prof's look for. You'll have to figure out what they want and work it.

Don't retake any class there. Take your grade and move on. Search Learnlink to see students' evaluations of classes/profs before you take them. It'll serve as a guideline of what to avoid. Emory gives you 2 summers to take classes at other schools during the summer, and a few easy A's at Georgia State, UGA, or Tech could do you some good. And if you're one of the many from Long Island, then I'm sure you know which schools there can fluff your GPA.

The school you are taking classes at will usually replace the lower grade but many professional schools will look at both grades and average the two. It will still boost your GPA if you do better but not as much obviously
