I have ran into an issue concerning one of my classes that I want to retake. I made a C in one of my physics classes last year and I know in order to get that grade replaced with a higher grade you have to take it at the same institution, but at my school if you make a C or higher in a class, you are NOT allowed to retake it. What should I do??? Should I just keep the C or just go to a junior college and take it over and just let Optomcas average both of the grades?😕😕😕

Hey,

I dont think they average it. Dont they take the better grade of the two?

From what I hear you have to retake the class at the same school that you took it at, but I don't see how that is fair to the people who have a C or C's in their science courses and they attend a university that doesn't allow us to retake classes we made a C in.

I would retake it at a Junior College then... seems like that is the only option since the school you attend and pay so much tuition won't allow you too.... 👎

I would NOT retake the class. If you have seen that material before, the expectation is that you should get nothing less than an A. There is essentially no challenge. Especially if you go to a junior college, which will be perceived as easier by some.

If you are concerned about showing mastery of the subject, take an upper division course in Physics to show that you can handle it. Otherwise, leave the grade, and worry about doing really well in all of your current and future courses to overcome that C. Consider yourself lucky, others would be happy to end up with that C you are trying to erase!

As always - the best advice is to contact someone at the schools you are interested in applying to. They will know exactly what their admissions committee likes to see.

Thanks prettygreeneyes, I will definitely take your advice and yes DawgOD I think it is ridiculous that we drop thousands of dollars into these universities and we can't even take retake certain classes!!!😡

Getting a C in one physics class is not that great of a deal. Try to supplement that grade with a solid physics score on the OAT. Or, as the other poster said, take a higher level physics class to outdo that grade.

I think it's stupid that they don't let you retake the class. You should be able to retake any class multiple times as long as you don't get credit for it twice and you pay the obligatory fees. My school lets you do that I believe, and you can even replace grades from freshman year classes.

It's not ridiculous. It's to stop uber rich kids from just being able to take class after class until they get an A, among other things. What good is that? If you REALLY want to retake it, then ask the instructor if you can audit the class.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I think I'll just study as hard as I can for the OAT and slam the physics section of it.

has anyone confirmed this? i mean it does not explicitly state that you cant take courses at two different schools and not have the higher grade replaced.

the rule doesn't really make sense.

who can i contact about this to get further info? i did email someone but no response as of yet.

I'm Curious about this as well. Maybe try to call the school and ask them directly?

Im also going through a similar dilemma with Physics. I took physics back in high school at a community college and got A- 's both semesters (this was algebra based physics).

Right now, im in the engineering (calculus based) physics class, and though i took the algebra based 2 years ago....this stuff is about 30 times harder. I expect to get a C+ to B at this point, the final will determine that. (one of the main reasons i took it was to test out a physics major)...

anyone know if i can use the A- 's algebra based physics which shows as Transfer credits on my transcript, so they can disregard what i get for the calculus-based? or will they only take the calc based into consideration?
