Retake classes or take upper level classes?

I'm not there yet(still have 2 years), but say you don't get accepted to med/osteo school right away, should you retake classes you got C's in, or take some upper level classes. I know going on to get a masters or something can help, but usually takes 2 years and you have to finish it before you can start med/osteo school.
Basically what do you guys think is the best way to improve your chances?

If you have had trouble with upper level classes (especially science) then find out your school's policy about that. Some schools will let you retake and then post only the later grade on transcripts, and others will post both the earlier and later grade. You may also want to take some graduate level hard science classes (even if not signed up as a degree seeking student) and ace those classes. Then you can present a powerful arguement for being able to do science at the medical school level. Good luck!

my counselor told me to take upper level classes instead of retaking classes you made a C in. you should only retake a class if you made a D or F. Otherwise, take series of upper level classes, make As, and let those classes stand for themselves....to show that you can do the level of work.

reason why you shouldn't just retake classes you made C is because it won't boost your GPA by that much.

I agree with this. If you can do well in grad classes like organic chem, physical chem, quantum chem of course you can do well in med school. These courses are harder.
