i just want to get some opinions about retaking the mcat. I have a 3.45 cGPA and sGPA. My first mcat score was 504 and retook it and got a lower score of 503. I have 1.5 years of full time scribe experience and been piloting a scribe/nurse role at my job for the last 3 months. I applied late this cycle and only got one interview at NSUCOM that I'm currently waitlisted at. Should I retake it or no? I'm set to take it in the 19th.

When did you apply? Only retake if you think you can do better.

Assuming schools didn't view your one point drop in your MCAT score as severely negative in any way... I don't see why you didn't get more interviews...

I suspect you didn't apply to enough schools. A 503 is good enough to get DO schools' attention, assuming the rest of your application is solid.

Do you have volunteering? Research experience? Did you write good essays?

Be blunt with yourself so people on here can help you more.

I had 3 MIPs during my senior year high school/freshman year but I'm 25 now and addressed it well according to my DO friend (plus I don't drink very much these days).

The rest of my statement and essays were good since I had them reviewed by my DO friend. I'm also a second author in a research paper not medical related. I have like 80 hours of volunteer work at a hospital and 50 hours of volunteer work at habitat for humanity. I didn't plan on going to medical school until a year after I graduated undergrad.

If you applied strategically even that late it feels like you should have gotten a couple more IIs. Any red flags like low pre req grades, IA, bio section really low on MCAT? Did aacomas calculate your gpa as lower than what your listing here? Applying late with average stats is only good for new achools overall.

I was told to just apply early this time but I also want to wait until the waitlist at NSU starts moving. My resources are limited and I'm paying for all my bills.

I got 127/125/126/125 for my most recent score. I applied to 9 schools so it wasn't as broad as I thought looking back.

Yeah I'd just go earlier then. What if the next MCAT is lower? Might look bad. It'd be different if you thought a retake would yield a 508-510.

Yea that's what I'm afraid of. My CARs score has been around 130 and the rest have been the same. Only thing that kills me is psych for some reason.

Geez that sucks. That would be a point increase. Still too risky in my opinion.

I'm just praying to the old gods and the new that I get called off the waitlist. The ex-CMO of my company wrote me a good letter of rec.

Dude, you're fine! Just apply early and broadly. Don't forget that you can submit your applications early and then as your letters of rec come in, your application will be updated.
