Retake or no?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Took the DAT today and here are my scores:

QR-22
RC-22
Bio-21
GC-22
Orgo-21
TS-21
AA-22

BUT my PA was a 17 🙁

should I retake or will I be okay?

Talk to your targeted schools. Some will tell you flat out that a 17 in fine, others might say its ok. You are above any cut-offs and the rest of the test is just so solid, I don't think you should retake (unless you are sure you can repeat the rest of the test with similar results).

A few schools emphasize PAT more than others and obviously those you will want to avoid, but otherwise you should manage to get into some place (assuming you GPA/ ECs etc. are good too).

I don't want to present any illusions here, your score is on the lower end, but its not a "you definitely need a retake". Admissions committees should provide you a bit more detailed info for their schools.

Like ushaseos said, I'd def ask the schools you are interested in if they have a PAT cut off. Without a doubt all your other scores are wayy above average. PA is something that comes with a lot of practice, you obviously have the aptitude to do well in dental school.

I feel your pain on not doing as hot on the PAT as you would have liked. A girl started whatever test next to me in the middle of my PAT and started SMASHING the keyboard. I'm one of those people that need silence to concentrate. I swear there was divine intervention in me getting a 19...

Anyways, I hope you hear good news regarding PAT score cutoffs. IMHO I think you will be fine, but definitely make sure by calling in.

good advice in this thread, give your schools a call and they should clear it up. aside from PAT, excellent scores! Unless you are below a cut-off for a school you really want to go to, I wouldn't suggest a retake unless you're confident you can get the same scores in your other sections. It would be too much of a gamble for me to take, personally, but I'm not the best test taker so you might be different.

Thanks for the advice! I will definitely talk to the dental schools that I am interested in. I am not confident that I could repeat the same scores, so I would rather not re-take if possible.
