Ok so I just graduated from my undergraduate institution this May and my AACOMAS GPA's are 3.4c/3.1s. The lower science GPA is due to a lousy first year where I received three C's. However, my last two years of college consisted of nearly all A's including organic I and II as well as physics II and some upper level biology classes. I calculated out that if I were to retake one of the C's and get an A then my GPA's would be around 3.45c/3.3s. I have some pretty good EC's, great shadowing experience (MD letter), psychology related research and my Kaplan practice MCAT scores are as follows (taking the real thing July 2nd)

Diagnostic: 22
FL1: 23
FL2: 24
FL3: 25
FL4: 23 - There was a longer gap between these tests due to finals and I think that caused the drop in score.
FL5: 27 - At this point I started summer break and have been devoting 7-8 hours a day to MCAT prep.
FL6: 34

Since I want my applications to be out as soon as the MCAT score comes in I realized that the only summer course I could take to make up one of my C's was Chemistry II which is offered during the month of July. So my question is, is it worth it for me to retake Chem II at this point or should the 3.4 and 3.1 GPA's be sufficient?

your GPA is below average for most schools. if money is not an issue and you can take steps to improve your GPA in a timely manner, why not? most schools will not start interviewing until september so you have time to get it done.

I suggestt hat a re-take of one of those Cs will be helpful. Don't worry about the timing of applications; it's a long cycle and at least at my school, applying in, say, Oct isn't lethal like it would be an allopathic candidate.

Your current sGPA is borderline acceptable for my school and other, so improving it will be a good thing.

BUT, you're still competitive as is. Not very competitive, but still competitive.
