Retake Organic?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Not likely to make a difference in the long run. I'd only retake it if you're certain to make an A and the class doesn't cost much.

Many people get into med school with Cs...even in pre-reqs.

Would it be a good idea to retake organic chem. if you got a C?

I would (and did). A C in organic doesn't look great on an application, but if you retake the class and make an A than that would probably make up for it.

I did well in first semster O chem. ..but 2nd semester I got a C+. I chose not to retake it. And I have had interviews and acceptances. Of course in my case I was also a full time student with all upper division science courses and I was working 55 hours a week. So I do get questioned about it but if they look at all that I was doing it seems to balance out. I fyou feel you can do better then I would say go for it. If your grades are strong other than that, I probably wouldnt worry about it much.

I'd say it depends a little on where you stand academically right now. If this C is an exception and your GPA is strong, then it probably won't get much attention from the adcoms.

However, if you've got a lowish-GPA or more than maybe 2 other C's, I'd retake it (and make sure you get an A)

good luck,
S

I don't a top 4 school cared about my C+ in O-chem when they waitlisted me... also had 2 acceptances and 4 quality waitlists.

Either way, I don't think you should retake it. If it's your only C it won't matter, and if it is just one of many, you're not going to change your GPA. I think it's a waste of time, and that time should be spent on getting A's in your other classes.

There are two semesters of O-chem, so just make sure you crush the next semester.
