Hey!

I am a junior at a top 50 college known for weeding out premeds.

I have gotten some grades I am certainly not proud of:

Physics 1: C
Physics 2: C+
Orgo 1: C+
Orgo 2: C
and 3 B-'s in sci/math courses

Current GPA: 3.28 overall, 3.12 sci

I have retaken Physics 1 and gotten a B.
I had really hoped for an A but I really just am not great at it.

Should I retake Physics 2 and risk another B or just take a different course instead?

I need to get all A's next semester and have chosen spring courses that I feel I have a reasonable chance at getting them in.

I plan on applying to both MD and DO schools.

If I apply this year, I should have a 3.3/3.4 all and a 3.2 sci. I realize that this is still not very good. I am basing my decision on applying this year on my MCAT score. I have started studying for it and will be taking it in May.

Assuming I do apply this year, would it be better to retake physics 2 (for DO purposes) or just take a different course that wouldn't require as much time and therefore work more on the MCAT?

As a general rule, you shouldn't retake classes that you will get credit for. That is, don't retake classes you got a C or better in. If you don't have very many credits, you might consider retaking Physics 1 since that's a class you can easily pull an A in after taking it once. That grade change might make a noticeable change in your DO application, and knowing basic physics better certainly will not hurt you when the MCAT rolls around.

I wouldn't retake it, as you passed it and received credit for it, like Milkman says. Take upper division courses and try to do well in those.
