retake the course

from my last topic should I take a C or a W, I took the W. I got a D in my crimnal justice before...🙁 and i'm gonna retake the class. (3rd time...crimnal justice😱😱)

so my question is, if i got an A this time , is the A gonna cover up my D ?

(i know the D is still gonna show up on my transcript)

but is it like if i got an A, the GPA will only count the A and ignore the D since they are the same class or the GPA still count the D, and also count the new A. then what is the point to retake it ..

Some schools have grade forgiveness, meaning if you re-take a course and do better in it, it will only count the grade you made in the re-take into your GPA (so essentially that D would not affect you negatively at all in your CC GPA). I'm not sure if that's how your CC works, you should ask the Registrar's Office about that. However, AADSAS does not work that way. When you fill out your AADSAS application, you will have to enter the D and whatever grade you make in your re-take. So AADSAS essentially averages it out. Dental schools will still take notice if you make higher on your re-take, as they like to look for improvements.

The A will go toward calculating your GPA, but the D will still show up on your transcript.
I still don't understand why you're worrying so much, and why you've chosen a dental forum to discuss your community college course work (not that it matters)!

Is the course a requirement for you? If not, then I would focus on taking upper level courses in that area and excel in them (unless you need to make at least a C to take those upper level courses, in which case you will need to retake).

AADSAS counts everything, trust me i know. I got 2 F's and a D my first semester(didnt think i was gunna stay in school) and it will definitely take a toll on your GPA but i dont think it will for you if you only have one D. I still have a 3.4 cum with those grades in there, so im sure you will be fine, and like nze said you are posting too many threads about this in a predental forum. So get good grades and relax.

Haha, well I thought it was good of her to ask instead of just not know... though we may have a FAQ somewhere around here with this. Tommy is correct in saying that AADSAS will count everything, thus my statement in your previous thread about how if you do retake, you need to get an A, because a B will lower your GPA. Yeah, I know this sucks, I got a D in the second semester of Ochem and then retook it and came to this realization.

I think if you get a D and you just leave it, it would look pretty bad. And you're taking this as a general ed class right?

In the long run, especially because it wasn't a science class, this won't hurt you that much. Good luck, and don't be discouraged from asking any questions you can't find the answer to.

well the reason why i took crimnal justice ... that was because i was gonna be a cop... then i changed my mind cuz criminal justice just not for me . so from the 2nd semster i decided to go for dental school ,so i changed my major to biochem..i get really good grade on it. but i still have to pass this freaking criminal justice...

Hmm... well, if it's not for general ed or anything, I'd still suggest retaking it if you can, but it probably won't be the biggest deal if you don't.

At my school, say you got a D...and then an A...both show up on the trancript...but the gpa's of both are averaged...so it would be like getting a C+/B- in the end...but its criminal justice...so who really cares..lol..that's like getting a D and then an A in evolution..who cares...right? lol!

Totally, retake that though...you can explain reasoning for why in your interview 🙂

5/2=2.5 = C+
as other sdners said take upper level Bio class instead retaking crimnal justice.
who cares about cminal justice. just find good excuse for getting D for that class. good luck
