I have read a couple of posts saying to retake the DATs in the fall like sept-oct if need be, and only telling the dental schools if your scores improved. However, if one does this then won't the dental schools review your first set of scores and give/not give an interview based on this first set? if they choose to not give one, then you are out of luck!

but then again if you tell them that you are retaking the DATs then they will hold your application until they receive those scores which could push the process back for you by alot and get you out of the race of the pre-dec 1st interview.

which is better to do, in your opinion?

-confused!

Your method only works when you already have good enough scores since schools may review your file if there is no note for a future retake.

If you are retaking it because you are worried about getting in at all, I think you should put a future DAT date.

But, if you are retaking it only to increase your already enough chance, you may want to retake without letting schools know.

to get an interview to my state school, does anyone know if an 18 ave and 19 sci with an average gpa is good enough with plans to retake?

It depends on which state school you are talking about.

I think it's possible. Check out predents.com and do a member search.

if u retake without letting the schools know, isn't that kind of dishonest in a way?

No it's not. If you can't take your DAT any sooner than like say in October because you took it during the summer, but you don't want adcoms to put your app. in hold, it's fine to not mention on the AADSAS app. about retaking. Like Bruin said, if your scores are decent enough to be competitive but you just want to improve your scores, not mentioning the retake might be a better idea. Nothing to do with dishonesty.
