Hey guys I am planning on applying this August. I have a 2.93 science GPA and a 3.4 overall gpa. I will be taking the MCAT in July. I wanted to ask about my chances even after having to retake 2 courses. I took a Gen chem class that I got a D in and got a B- the second time. Also I got a C- in Ochem and got a B- the second time. With those averaged out like I said I have a 2.93 science GPA. Should I be really worried about that GPA with retaking both of those classes? Do they really look down on those that had to retake classes? Thanks

Any ideas on my chances? Thanks

Usually when retaking classes schools expect a large increase in grade, (going from D to A for example). Not sure how they will feel about C- to B- since while that is an improvement, it still does not show that you really understood the material the second time around.

Science GPA is pretty low, will taking any more classes bring it over a 3.0 this summer?

If you do well on the MCAT and apply early you should have a shot at a few schools, but you may have some explaining to do in your interview.

Your overall gpa is above average. Your sci GPA is below average. Which evens out to about average. Which means your going to be okay.

Score as high as you can on your MCAT.

I won't be able to take any classes this summer, I'm doing research and studying all summer for the MCAT, so I don't think there is any time to work on the science GPA.

As long as you can score at least a 19, you should be fine if you apply really early. Try to aim for >24 on mcat and try to get that science GPA >3.0 and you will prob get some scholarship money and your choice of where you want to go vs only being able to apply to 1 or 2 schools.
