I have been reading the threads about replacing your bad grades by retaking classes and all.. that sounds really great but how many people have actually retaken classes and reapplied without doing a post bacc afterwards? And by how many points did your GPA increase?

I retook some classes and got into med school. More than increasing my GPA, I made the adcoms understand that I retook the classes to better learn the material. Must have worked because I'm just finishing my third year at AZCOM.

Good luck!

mdapplicants.com has lots of profiles of people that got in after retakes. I think while not easy it does show dedication. For me my non-science gpa has gone up from a 3.1 to a 3.5 at least with more to come.

Ive re-taken one class (ENG) and my GPA went up a lot.....I just wonder how many classes is too much to re-take...3?..4?...5?

take as many as you want. I'm retaking all the classes i got C's in during my first and second year. This will help booast my gpa by .7 points. 🙂

How many classes is tht??

i took one 3 credit class twice the first time i got a D+ which is worth 1.33 g.p.a points multiplied by three give 4 g.p.a points. the second time i took it i got a C which is worth 2 g.p.a points multiplied by three gives 6 g.p.a points. this is a science class. when AACOMAS calculates my science g.p.a and overall g.p.a do they use the 3 credits and 4 g.p.a points that i got the first time and the 3 credits and 6 g.p.a points that i got the second time for a total of 6 credits and 10 g.p.a points or do they just count the 3 credits the first time without the 4 g.p.a points the first time and the 3 credits and 6 g.p.a points the second time for a total of 6 credits and 10 g.p.a points or do they just count what happened the second which is the 3 credits and 6 g.p.a points without counting what happened the first time ( 3 credits and 4 g.p.a points). im just confused

i believe that they take your most recent grades, regardless of how many times you taken it.

I understand tht as far as calculating your GPA...but how does it look to med schools when you've retaken like 7 classes?...tht doesnt hurt you at all?

I believe it shows the adcom that you're willing to go back and prove yourself. I'm going to retake 5-10 classes, plus take classes for my second degree too. Show the adcom that i can handle a full load and make good grades at the same time.

how much do decreasing trends in g.p.a from freshman to senior year factor into a school's decision. is it looked upon heavily by the D.O. schools?
