I am currently a junior and got a C- in Orgo 2 (somp. Year/ Took 20+ credit & worked full time). I need to take my MCAT this summer ( going 2 follow 3 month plan on sticky)

Question:

I will only be able to retake Orgo 2 this summer ( 4 week course 9-12:30pm) from July-Aug...Do you guys think I can study efficiently for the MCAT and get an A in Orgo 2 at the same time?

* I will not be working in the summer*

On a side note due to my gpa (3.2/ will be going up!!🙂)am going to apply to SMPs, do you think an SMP will take me if I have a C-?

If it were any other class I'd say it wouldn't be a problem but orgo 2 is going to be a bit rough. I ended up taking orgo 2 after work a year ago and got the A but only after I put a lot of time into it. I remember specifically saying "Thank God I didn't take this while I was had other classes" since it sucked up so much of my time. I'd often bring my notes into the hospital I worked at and study almost every day. The fact it's a summer class may make it even more intense, since it's so condensed. That said, depending on the school, the summer class may not be very difficult. I know a few people that took orgo in the summer and claimed it was pretty easy. It might be worth asking some people in your school how the class is.

To be perfectly honest, if I were you I would move my MCAT up to an earlier date so I didn't have to deal with orgo at the same time.

don't cross post dude, it's frowned upon. i'm frowning at you.

I'm sorry, I am new to this forum, and my summer registration is soon. So I wanted as much advice as possible.

You don't seem smart enough for this endeavor. Would not recommend unless you are prepared to have a big change in the way you study.

What makes you assume I am not smart enough? My guess is you have judged me by my GPA?

The obstacles I have overcome in my life, are something I hope you or anyone else will never even come close too. So before you arrogantly judge me, remember that we all come from different places, and very different backgrounds.

We all have obstacles, dear.

The fact is, you got a C- in Orgo II. This either showed laziness, stupidity, or poor foresight. You already demonstrated that you can't handle doing multiple things and also getting A's in classes. Like I said, unless there is a big change in the way you study, you won't be able to retake Orgo II (with an A) and study for the MCAT at the same time.

You obviously cannot remove yourself from your own "little world" (and I’m sure it’s very little considering your arrogance and obvious immaturity). Yes, we all have obstacles, and I don’t have to explain by setbacks or disadvantages to you. They go above and beyond, what I’m sure you would be able to comprehend.

Why the **** do people keep calling it "orgo"??!??!??! There aren't even two O's in the words Organic Chemistry

What ever happened to "ochem"???? Sounds much better than orgo.

People have always called it orgo, it's the easiest thing to say.

Why is Jimmy the nickname for James? There isn't even an i in the name James.

Why is Dick the nickname for Richard?

Morsetlis, You strike me as the kind of little man who jumps at an opportunity to puff himself up in the anonymous world of message boards, only to quiver and run in the face of confrontation in the real world. Go easy on the OP.

I wouldn't take Morsetlis' advice imo. From what I've seen, summer classes tend to be easier than their fall/spring counterparts. If you're only planning on taking that, then I say go for it. Be confident!

We'll see in August what her grades are ;p

Thanks for the advice guys. Im going to see if my univ offers it any other time, so I won't have to cram. I'll let def let you guys know the outcome.

Mekel you read my mind..lol : )

To be honest I'd advise against this. I did the summer Orgo route and earning As meant that I had to study orgo 8 hours a day. 3 hours of lecture and then another 5 studying plus whatever I crammed in at my night job. I had a test each Friday and Orgo 2 was the worst 4 weeks of my life. If you're a normal person you'll burn out trying to do this and put in your MCAT study.

Can you time your MCAT for a month or two after Orgo? The chem will be fresh in your mind and you'll be able to focus just on the test.

Shouldn't organic 2 be easier since s/he has already experienced it before? And I agree with summer classes being easier. I love summer classes.

Hey guys, I know this is old but i promised i'd give an update.

I took Orgo 2 during the summer and pulled an A-
I did work about 30 hrs a week but I was not taking 24 credits like I did when I first took the course loool.

Thanks for all your POSITIVE support and advice.

^ Congrats man!

I took Orgo over the summer too (I and II...with lab I. Yes, it sucked.), was about to post that I do not taking it over the summer because it was literally I could do to just not go out for a run and never come back. Pure horror.

But you made it, commend you! How did your MCAT go?
