Hey all,

I am currently in Orgo II and am doing very badly in it and will probably drop it and take a W for the course and retake it over the summer. However, I am planning on applying to med schools over the summer and also planning on taking Orgo II (which is my only pending course requirement) over the summer. Most schools, though, don't complete orgo II till August. So, can I turn in my application in June or July and then update my portfolio in August with my Orgo II grades when I am done with the course, or will med schools just dismiss my application immediately since I won't have a grade for Orgo II?

Also, when I retake the course will it look bad if I take it at another university? I reason I ask is that I am currently at a top 10 university, but I can retake the course at a university back home (not a community college), but it is not ranked nearly as high as at institution I am at right now. Will the difference in the institution rankings make me look bad/look like I'm trying to cop out?

Thanks for all the responses!

Does your school allow retakes to override the previous class in your GPA/cancel it from your transcript if you retake it at that school? Some do. If that's possible, that might be a better option. At many schools it depends how many credit hours you have done, though, so check that too.

You are applying this summer and you are just taking O-Chem 2? How did you do on the MCAT without finishing the pre-reqs?

BlueElmo, I am a bit of a non-traditional candidate. I finished my undergraduate studies last May and then decided to pursue medical school. I am working on my Master's degree in engineering currently, and also finishing up my pre-med requirements along the way.

What difference does that make? You're required to enter ALL grades on your med school application, including those that you retook or were canceled from your transcript. They will ALL be calculated for your GPA, regardless of what your school does.
