Way back when I was applying to school (in 2003--got in but wanted to take a break from school--and again in 2005), I was like many of you and was wondering if my GPA was good enough. Fortunately it was and I got in. It has been a few years now since that time, but I seemed to have remembered that instead of retaking certain classes, I substituted them for similar classes that I either didn't take or scored better in. (eg. I got a B in Human Phys, but an A in Physiology in sport). At one school I was applying to, I remember I could replace biology (got a C...my first C in my life, first semester of college) with zoology (got a B+). There may have even been a few others too but seems so long ago.

Point is, before many of you go back and retake certain classes for better grades, find out from the adcoms whether certain classes can substitute for classes you either didn't take or didn't do as well in. I think you will be surprised as to how many classes they will accept. Sometimes they will ask you for a syllabus so be prepared. Hope that helps some of you out. Not sure how the PTCAS affects this, but always worth a try!

Good luck everyone!

Hah. That's some good advice and was something I was wondering about. I recieved a C- in English my freshman year. I am graduating and will be retaking English at CC. In reality they are almost the exact same class, read a few stories and write a few short papers on them (granted a lot more stories and papers at my 4 year). However, the 1 at my 4 year is more geared towards being exposed to all these short stories, and the CC class is more about the writing aspect. Hope it works out that way, would be a nice prereq GPA boost.

Maybe I should do the same thing with my math class....

Wow, that's nice MinnDasota. That was not the case for me. I applied to all the schools in the Minnesota, Wisconsin, Dakota area and they all told me that in order to compare everyone on a even playing field, upper-level courses could not count for a pre-req. At the time I was trying to find out if my O-chem I or II courses or even Biochem could take the place of my Gen Chem II grades. Didn't happen.

Actually, one of the schools I applied to was St Kate's in MN. However, the classes I used to replace other prereqs were similar in levels so there wasn't an argument from the adcoms.

Yeah it seems that most schools in my area are being pretty strict regarding the prerequisites.
