I will be taking the Pcat for the third time. I was wondering how many times people usually take the test? Does anyone know if taking the test mutiple times hurts you?

Pearson will allow you to take the test up to FIVE (5) times. After that, you have to write them something saying that you would like to take the test again.

I took the test twice - Aug 08 and Jan 09. Scored about 3 percentile different in composite the second time.

I know one girl who took the test four times - Jun 08, Aug 08, Oct 08, and Jan 09. She was struggling with her PCAT score, but she's a P1 at a pharmacy school in Colorado.

People usually take it twice or three times. Some people improve a lot, and others don't. Pharmacy schools will usually accept as many scores as you send them, but

  • Some schools take your highest composite as your PCAT score for considering admission
  • Some schools take your most recent composite as your PCAT score for considering admission
  • Some schools take the average of all of your composite scores as your PCAT score for considering admission

So depending on what each pharmacy school to which you're applying ends up doing, decide carefully.
