Hey all,

So here's my situation: I'm a senior about to graduate from a top 20 university. I took the MCAT last September for the first time and got a 31Q (9's in each of the sciences, 13 VR). My cumulative GPA is a 3.14 and my BCPM is around there...somewhere.. upward trend (3.75+ the last 1.5 years) and specific circumstances (victim of violent crime)

Anyways I know I need to up the ante, so I have applied to SMP's, post-bacc's, etc up the wazoo. I already signed up to retake in April but after more consideration (and jeezes, who really wants to take that test again) - maybe not? What do you all think?

hey, sorry to hear about you being the victim to a crime. i know a few people who went through that and it really affected their lives and academics significantly.

since you do want to up the ante, i would recommend retaking the MCAT if you feel you can do better. a 31 is good, but if you want to offset the gpa, you'll need at least a 34+ (i'm sure you could do this, from a top 20 and with your strong ending performance in school...also, your verbal is strong. the sciences you can actually study for and increase while verbal is a whole diff ball game, so you're on the right track).

since you know how the mcat works, if you can lock down and study those sciences i'm sure you can do well. i'd say retake and prove to adcoms in smp's/post baccs/med schools how intelligent you really are. good luck!
