Is there any truth in this article about the retina personality?

If so...why?

I've actually met many who fit that profile, but others who don't. Since I'm not a VR doc, I guess it doesn't really apply to me. Anyway, I'm definitely a cerebral technophile, but am fairly easy-going and not so clinically narrow-minded. As a general rule, certain personality types tend to gravitate toward certain medical specialties. There are always exceptions, though.

I think there is some truth to the article, however, there is a lot of variability in terms of personality between one retina surgeon and the other. Some do have the high strung and compulsive nature discussed, but others are laid back and reasonable.

I have to admit that despite all that, there is quite a difference between the anterior seg and retina types as the article alluded to.

While certain personality types gravitate to the field, after years of practicing retina, I think some characteristics are acquired and then re-enforced given the nature of the specialty.

So what skills are better correlated with the "nature of the specialty" of retina? It seems like this article says the retina guys are ADHD-like, does that just meant that retina guys have to be faster than general when working up patients? Aka: are retina guys more hands-on or more diagnostic, are they more creative or more routine/precision oriented, are they more alpha-male types or more supportive types?
