Ok the title my sound a little dramatic, but what a refreshing change from the usual "stay away from medicne" we hear so often from varius docs. The retired doc was having chest pain last night, turned out to be muscular, and as I was asking him questions about his field he said that he was envious about my going to school. 🙂

No one has ever told me to stay away from medicine.

In fact, the docs I've talked to all say the opposite.

But, they say "stay away from surgery."

I kind of have gotten the same feeling about surgery from other docs, why do you think that is the case?

Mr. Surgeon: stay away from surgery SO THAT MY KIDS CAN GET SPOTS!!
uh oh did I speak softly when I should of been loud and vice versa?

My foot doctor told me not to go into medicine actually....she was an MD, but I'm not sure if she was specialized in orthopedic or not, it was so long ago I can't remember. I asked her why and she said the field is getting terrible, with the malpractice and all, and then she said they don't get paid enough!!!!!😕 Very confusing, yet she seemed so unhappy to be a physician. It made me so mad bc I know tons of people out there who want to be and will make excellent doctors if only given the chance..good luck waitlisters! and everyone else who got in, congratulations! you earned it:clap: Don't be spiteful like this lady and tell future hopefuls they are getting themselves into a profession that they will spend the rest of their lives just paying their loans off.

I've been told my many docs not to go into medicine. One even told me that if I wanted to help people to become a missionary because " in 15 years physicians and missionaries will both make the same money and at least missionaries don't get sued." I spoke with the DO I consider my mentor and ask about this negative feedback. Basically he said that the paperwork aspect of medicine can be really frustrating and that when coupled with decreasing income and rising cost if you go into medicine without a real passion for it (E.G. thinking it might be an interesting way to make some money) you'll wake up one day after residency and hate every single second of your job for the rest of your life. He went on to say that he really loved medicine, even with all the bull****, but that it would really suck to be in the field without that passion.

If it was not for surgery, I would have not thought about going to med. school.

More to come soon...
