I'm a medical student who overheard a fellow today about how his wife was retiring now that she was pregnant (and how he would start having to make up for a pediatrician's salary .)
now, this is an example of a physician-mom who decided that career and family don't mix, but it raised the a question in my mind about how much time a doctor can take off from practice (after completing residency and being in practice a few years) and then decide to go back? is it just about board certification and active licensure? Do places that hire doctors care if you've been gone for 1-2 years? 5 years?
