I'm a D1 and I am really trying to get as much advice and guidance as possible as I go through dental school. So I've got a question for the Dentists (and D4's) out there. I keep hearing about how there isn't enough chair time in the clinic and how relatively slow we are immediately after graduation. Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently in the dental school clinical years that you believe would have really helped you today? Thanks.

Hindsight being 20/20, I would say that due to the time crisis I had with finishing requirements, I probably did the best I could with the time and patient pool I ended up with 3rd and 4th year. If you find yourself finished with requirements, volunteer in some implant and ortho cases if it fancies your interest.

it's very hard to be doing things in addition to completing requriments, worrying about regional boards and graduating on time. I would say do your best in d school and if you r not going to do any post grad programs/specialty, then you can always boost your exp with CE courses.

The state I went to school in had lenient laws when it came to assisting. I spent many afternoons and some Saturdays assisiting a local dentist (placing resins, making temporaries, helping out with ortho adjustments, etc..) Anything helps when it comes to speed. To give you an idea, a temporary crown should take 5 minutes.
