I wrote an essay when applying for my post-bacc program I am in right now. I am applying for the dental school in the same school, and want to reuse one of the essays I wrote for dental school applications. Is there a chance the dental school admissions would ask the post-bacc admissions for my application I sent a year ago to see if I reused any essays (which would look bad I would think...)?

Eh, if it helped get you accepted to the post-bacc program, it is probably fine to reuse. I'd say just tweak it in a few places if you can find areas for improvement.

I can't imagine it looking "bad" or anything like that. I generally don't recommend that reapplicants use the same PS, but this is a different situation. I think this is safe.

The two admissions offices will function independently of each other. From experience, I can say that transferring info between the two is a headache. You can check to make sure, but I doubt anyone in either office would go through the trouble.

Past that, recycling an essay isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you're talking about a monumental time from your childhood, it's not going to have to changed in the past year. If it's a general topic like "Why Dentistry", then you should probably edit your essay to at least briefly mention your post-bacc.

Thanks very much for the replies! I was wondering if I were being a bit paranoid... but had to hear any second opinions.

By checking you mean calling the post-bacc admissions office to see if they ever do transfer information?

The essay in question is about my past, so I did think it'd make sense to simply reuse an essay I wrote just a year ago..

Dental admissions or post-bacc admissions, either/or. You don't have to be specific. Most likely they'll tell you that there are no procedures in place to transfer info, or that it's impossible, or that you'll have to sign some paperwork authorizing release of your info from one party to another.
